Secondary Schools

Secondary Schools

The EBP provides secondary and special schools in Lincolnshire and Rutland with comprehensive support in enterprise education and Work-related Learning.

It offers specially created Enterprise Support Packages to all secondary and special schools. The packages have been developed in a range of formats to help schools to deliver effective enterprise education.

These include the highly popular Embedding Enterprise Curriculum Challenges which offer students the opportunity to work on a “real life” challenge set by a business sponsor. For academic year 2008/09, challenges have been set by local and national organisations such as Lincoln City Football Club, Rutland Radio and Anglian Water.

Part of the enterprise agenda involves celebrating success. All of the challenge winners and their business sponsors are invited to a high-profile awards dinner to celebrate the students' achievements.

As part of the Enterprise Support Packages, schools are also entitled to a skills development activity for a full year group. Schools can choose from a menu of activities designed and developed by The EBP to enhance students’ skills in important areas such as teamwork, financial capability, leadership and communication.

Schools can also utilise The EBP’s expertise in enterprise education by undertaking an enterprise audit. The EBP understands the importance of schools being able to demonstrate evidence of delivering enterprise skills. A member of its Enterprise Team is available to work with schools to assess their levels of enterprise and work-related learning in every subject area against QCA criteria.

Work Experience

The EBP has a proven track record of supporting young people to prepare for life beyond the classroom.

Every year it delivers and co-ordinates around 9,000 work experience placements across Lincolnshire and Rutland.

Work experience gives students the opportunity to gain an insight into the world of work, to investigate possible career paths and a chance to put their learning into practice.

Students also have the opportunity to develop their self-confidence and improve their communication skills. These enable them to work more effectively with other people in further or higher education, as well as in their future careers.

In line with national legislation, The EBP conducts health, safety, welfare and suitability checks on all employers offering work experience and provides every student with a Work Experience Student Record Book, enabling them to evaluate their achievements.

The EBP has more than 11,000 employers in Lincolnshire and Rutland on its work-experience database. They cover a wide range of vocational sectors and industries and can provide interesting and relevant work placements to help young people gain real-life experience.

All the employers on the database are canvassed annually to ascertain their ability to support Work Experience placements. The EBP also supports the employers by providing them with updates about changes to Work-related Learning and how they can become more involved.

In 2007/08, a total of 8,080 employers actively offered placements for pre-16 students, representing 73% of the businesses on the database.
