STEM
Through these contracts we have a responsibility to provide all schools and colleges with impartial advice and guidance on a wide range of STEM E&E activities, helping them to identify which opportunities can best inspire their young people in STEM. This includes advice on activities listed in the STEM directories as well as other regional and local provision.
The STEMPOINT and STEM Ambassadors contracts are awarded by STEMNET. For further information, please contact Stella Morgan on stella.morgan@eblo.org.uk or refer to www.stemnet.org.uk
For more information on STEM Directories, please go to www.stemdirectories.org.uk
For other STEM related links please go to the East Midlands STEM partnership website at www.emstempartnership.org.uk
The EBP can also, independent of the STEMNET contract, provide exciting activities linked to the world of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics and Enterprise.
The EBP works with schools in many ways and through the various activities outlined below. The following is a list of some of the STEMPOINT and EBP STEM related activities that your school can become engaged with.
K'Nex Challenge
The K'Nex annual challenge is run in primary schools throughout the two counties with the help of our STEM Ambassadors. The overall aim of the challenge is to introduce students to the exciting world of engineering and technology.
CREST Awards
The CREST Awards are a nationally recognised accreditation scheme for project work in the fields of science and technology. It is aimed at students’ aged between 11 and 19. More information can be found at the CREST website. Click here to visit the British Science Association CREST website
CREST in a Day
This activity allows students to acheive a CREST Bronze award in a day through a series of science activities on the theme of water. Supported by local business partners, students will work in teams to solve problems, test predictions, record their results and make a presentation.
CREST* Investigators

The activities focus on thinking about, talking about and practicing science. The activities develop children's scientific enquiry skills in an enjoyable context with links to the National Curriculum where appropriate.
STEM Ambassadors

If you are interested in becoming one of our STEM Ambassadors, please contact Paula Bailey on 01522 574100 or email paula.bailey@eblo.org.uk
Lab in a Lorry
A mobile physics laboratory for Y6 – Y9 students – students visit the lorry in groups of up to 15 and can complete 3 experiments in rotation over an hour answering questions like – Why is the sky blue? How do we get oil from the ground? And how does sound travel? Students are given the opportunity to recreate the situations in laboratory conditions; it is fun and informative and is used by some schools as a visiting physics resource or to develop further inter-school, community and/or primary school links.
STEM Days
STEM Days are designed for up to 100 students to enjoy a range of STEM and Enterprise related activities, including student links to mathematics, budgeting, working to deadlines, project management, team working and enterprise skills
