The EBP Annual Conference 2010 - 2020 Citizens - Supporting Sustainable Partnerships

On 25th February, The EBP, with support from Lincolnshire County Council, and HTI held their ever-popular Annual Conference at The Petwood Hotel, Woodhall Spa, this year focusing on 2020 Citizens – Supporting Sustainable Partnerships.

With a mix of delegates from the worlds of education and business, the Annual Conference proved to be a highly successful event, fulfilling it's aim of helping both businesses and teachers help prepare students for life as a 2020 citizen. During this informative day, delegates were able to hear the viewpoints of businesses, senior decision makers from Rutland County Council and CfBT and importantly the students themselves. One of the highlights of the day was a touching and heartfelt keynote speech from Diane Richens of The One Foundation. Diane spoke about how schools and students can assist their organisation with the work they are carrying out to

supply clean, accessible drinking water to the third world. The EBP were overwhelmed by the number of schools who were keen to become involved with this already successful, unique social enterprise. Although Diane spoke about some of the ways in which schools can become involved with the One Foundation, she also stated that they are always looking for new ways to engage with schools and young people in a way that benefits both the students and the third world. The EBP will update you on the progress of the new projects in future editions of Term Talk.

Other highlights of the day included a presentation by six students from Branston Community College. All of the students, accompanied their headteacher, Peter Beighton, spoke confidently about the sustainable partnership they have developed with Lincolnshire Co-operative. Delegates were able to hear first hand how a partnership, such as theirs, has mutually benefited the students, the school and the Co-op. The students spoke about the opportunities that had been made available to them as part of this successful partnership before going on to show how their experiences have shaped their vision of a 2020 citizen. The students presented a video, which they had developed, filmed and edited themselves. It featured interviews with fellow students giving an insight into how they think their lives will have changed by 2020 as well as giving details of how they will get there!

Lively interactive workshops from, amongst others, The QCDA, Business in the Community and the Lincolnshire and Rutland Enterprise Learning Partnership were also a feature of the day. Feedback from delegates in attendance was overwhelmingly positive and The EBP would like to thank the sponsors, speakers and delegates for making it such a worthwhile and relevant day.
