The A record breaking 23 schools took part in this years' agricultural focussed challenge at The Lincolnshire Show, which was sponsored by E. Park & Sons Ltd. The primary, secondary and special schools were displaying the work they had carried out over the last few months and presenting to the judges in order to be crowned Schools' Challenge champions for 2010.
Schools were invited by The EBP to pick from a selection of 8 challenges, all with a agriculture, horticulture or farming focus, the standard of the entries from all schools was fantastic with schools presenting challenge responses ranging from recipes for their home grown potatoes to they would advertise the Lincolnshire Show.
The 4 expert judges faced a difficult task of selecting the winners for both the primary and secondary categories, but after much deliberation the winners were announced to a huge expectant crowd before the close of The Show on 24 June.
The trophies were presented by Hugh Bourn, The President of The Lincolnshire Agricultural Society to Kesteven & Sleaford High School for winning the secondary Schools' Challenge and Woodland Primary School from Grimsby for taking the top prize in the primary schools category.
As well as organising and running The Schools' Challenge, The EBP also held a series of professional development workshops for teachers. The workshops, which also had an agricultural focus were very well received and covered topics such as how food can influence students' behaviour and tips and advice on how teachers can implement their own food and farming focussed initiatives in the classroom.
